you wanna know about my running, huh? where to begin...

i started running in eighth grade, at Frick Middle School in pittsburgh. i did pretty well, and certainly lots better than i had done in any other sport. fortunately, no pictures of me exist from that year. trust me on this one. then i got to high school.

here's my team my freshman year. yes, i thought the hat was cool. i'm so sorry.

fortunately, my fashion sense got better with my running, and by junior year i was tearing things up on the xc scene. it's a shame i went to a small school that wasn't part of the western penna. interscholastic athletics league (wpial) until the year after i graduated, or i might have gotten to the state meet. *sigh*

kickin' it at the end of the central catholic invite, our biggest meet of the year.

my school, winchester thurston, also didn't have a track team. so how did i keep myself occupied from november until may?

answer: the pittsburgh marathon. this was my finish senior year. i thought i could have done better, but it's a respectable time, nonetheless.

running for kenyon college has probably been the best thing about my undergraduate education so far. my freshman year, we won conferences for the first time ever...

... and this past year, we placed 13th in the DIII national cross country meet!

my personal best finish was at regionals freshman year, completing 8 kilometers (almost exactly 5 miles for the metrically-challenged among us) in 26:50. i'm pretty happy with that, as it was good enough to earn me the number six spot on the team.

last hundred meters of our conference race freshman year. almost caught the denison guy. almost.

right now, my spring 2001 training is gearing towards racing duathlons this summer (running/cycling/running). if and when i get pictures of those, i'll be sure to post 'em. for now, i be up and on out. see you on the backroads of knox county.
